Expert Blocked Shower Drain Clearing

How much do you love your steaming hot shower after another long and stressful day? Australians just like you are among the 90 percent of us who jump under the hot and cold taps daily – with most of everyone else still preferring a bath. But whether you love a shower or a long soak in the tub, your fun comes screeching to a halt in the event of a blocked shower drain.

  • Bathroom floor wet?
  • Smelly/gurgling drains?
  • Toilet level rising when you flush?
Brisbane Blocked Shower Drain

Unfortunately, it sounds like a blocked bath or shower drain is in the works at your place. Rest assured, however, that it’s near the top of the list of common plumbing problems – which is precisely why the friendly Brisbane plumbing team here at Drain Masters Plumbing is so good at resolving this run-of-the-mill household issue.

Obviously, the most obvious sign of a blocked bath drain is when the water spills over your feet and out of the shower – or a pulled plug in the tub leaves those dozens of litres of warm water simply sitting there. But if your blocked bathroom and shower drain are still in the process of becoming hopelessly blocked, you may notice a wet bathroom floor, slow-to-drain bath water, and even rising toilet levels when you flush, foul drain smells and gurgling drains.

Discovered your shower drain blocked? The culprits are normally:

  • Hair
  • Objects
  • Soap runoff/scum
  • Lack of maintenance
  • Dirt & grime.

But spare a thought for those hard-working drains, because they are tasked with the unenviable job of efficiently draining hundreds upon hundreds of litres of water each and every day. And if your blocked bathroom drains need a little more than a plunge, some baking soda & vinegar or a DIY gunk clean-out to get back on song, the fully-licensed blocked drain specialists at Drain Masters Plumbing can be at your place with a fully-stocked van of skills and equipment in no time.

Blocked Drain FAQs

In just about all cases, if the drain is located within the bounds of your own property, the onus is on you to maintain and – if necessary – ensure it is flowing and draining all that waste and stormwater properly.

However, there may be some exceptions – such as whether a third party caused the damage to occur. Also, if the blocked drain in question is situated outside of the bounds of your property – a community stormwater drain or the street-situated outlet for your property’s drains – then it is normally your local council or other authorised authority who is responsible for dealing with it.

But rest assured that in just about all cases, including normal household drains, the responsibility to maintain and clear it is yours, and yours alone. And in most cases, you’ll also be the one to benefit in terms of preventing mess, water damage, flooding and health risks.

If you’re in doubt, get in touch with your local plumber and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately, while your drains are designed to tackle an awful lot of water, waste and even debris, there are also an awful lot of problems that could lead to a devastating blockage.

And there is no professional on earth who is better equipped to list off these most common blocked drain causes than your local plumber. Among the leading causes are all the normal drain suspects like hair and soap from your shower, food scraps, fats and grease from the kitchen sink, and for your outdoor drains debris like twigs, leaves and general silt, dirt and other gunk. All too often, plumbers find unflushable objects and items stuck in drains including toiletries, and then on other occasions it is broken pipes and poor installation that ultimately led to the blockage.

It’s not a good idea to hold off that call to the plumber until a drain is hopelessly blocked – complete with flooding, water damage, spilled waste, damaged property and major health & safety risks. That’s because a blocked drain isn’t just something that needs a plumber’s attention. It’s a plumbing emergency, plain and simple.

Rather, you should be watching out for the signs of a developing blocked drain so that you can avoid all of those much more damaging, unhealthy & expensive outcomes.

Essentially, there are 4 things to keep your eyes, ears and nostrils out for:
